The do not become pregnant right away doesn't necessarily mean you have any problem, or that you or your partner are infertile. Menstrual Cycle
The menstrual cycle is defined as the time elapsed between the first day of the menstrual period until the last day of the next period. Normally, the average length of the cycle is 28 days, however, this may vary between 21 and 31 days for some women. It is divided into 4 phases:
- Menstrual phase: Start of the cycle between day 1 and 6, when you have your period.
- Follicular phase: between days 7 and 13, after the bleeding. The estrogen and progesterone begin to rise, causing an increase in energy and vitality.
- Ovulatory phase: between days 14 and 21, it is when your hormones come to stop. Estrogen and testosterone are shot and your egg is ready to be fertilized or released.
- Luteal phase: around days 22-29, after ovulation, estrogen and testosterone decrease and progesterone takes center stage.

It is precisely in the ovulatory phase, between days 14 and 21 of the cycle (depends on the cycle of each woman, it is usually between day 12 and day 16 from the day on which fell the menstrual period), when you should keep unprotected sex. While the process of ovulation lasts for 2 or 3 days, you can also get pregnant if you have intercourse the previous days, as the sperm remain alive within the body of the woman between 48 and 72 hours.
To better recognize when during your cycle these ovulating, it is important to recognize the symptoms of this stage:
- Changes in texture and consistency of the flow from the vagina, similar to the egg white, transparent and sticky.
