WHAT IS A HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM?
A hysterosalpingogram, or HSG test evaluates the shape of the uterus and check to see if the fallopian Tubes are open. Usually it is used to investigate spontaneous abortions due to problems in the uterus.
Specialists use this test to assess what you could be having difficulties to get pregnant, as you can see the opening of the fallopian tubes, the form and structure of the uterus, and any kind of scars in the uterus or in the abdominal cavity close.
The review also assesses the opening of the fallopian Tubes, and reviews the effects of the surgery of the fallopian tubes.
IN WHAT CASES IS SHOWN THE HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM?
The exam can be investigating repeated abortions caused by uterine congenital or acquired, such as:
- Uterine fibroid uterine.
- Endometrial polyps.
- Accessions.
- Congenital problems (uterine anomalies).
- Tumors.
WHAT IS A HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM?
The Hysterosalpingogram is an X-ray examination of the uterus and fallopian tubes that uses a special form of X-ray called fluoroscopy and a contrast material.
Step 1
The specialist uses fluoroscopy to see internal organs in motion. Fill out your uterus and fallopian tubes with a material of water-soluble contrast.
Step 2
The radiologist will use fluoroscopy to take pictures and being able to see and evaluate.
This test is usually done on an outpatient basis but if you are using sedation in the patient.
Step 3
The patient is lying face up on a table with your knees bent, or with your feet on a plate supports feet. The doctor will insert a speculum into the vagina, cleanse the cervix and inserts a catheter.
Step 4
We remove the speculum and put the patient carefully under the camera of fluoroscopy. The doctor proceeds to fill the uterine cavity, fallopian tubes and peritoneal cavity with contrast material through the catheter and the capture of the fluoroscopic images. When you have completed the procedure, the catheter is removed. The exam has a duration of between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the case.
